More Details Emerge on Proposed Starbucks in Waltham

If approved, a new Starbucks location would open at 1265 Main St.

New details on the proposed Starbucks emerged during a City Council meeting on Monday, March 25.

The store, proposed for the former Polaroid site at 1265 Main St., would span 1,700 square feet, according to J & Co. Project Manager Rick Vallarelli. Its projected hours would be 5 a.m. - 10 p.m. Also, the store would have 18 outdoor seats and 26 inside seats, according to attorney Phil McCourt, who represents the site's developers, 1265 Main St. LLC.

Specifically, the company has requested special permits to operate a fast food establishment and a drive-thru at the site. After a public hearing during the meeting, that request was referred to the Rules & Ordinance Committee for further review.

If approved, the store would be Starbucks's first Waltham location. Two prior attempts to open a location in the city failed.

Several concerns about the proposal arose. City Councillor Daniel Romard said he was worried that workers from proposed office space would be in danger when crossing a parking lot to get to the Starbucks store.

Also, Romard said Starbucks would have to obtain a special permit to open at 5 a.m.

Other site details were also revealed. According to project documents, Starbucks plans to sign a 10-year lease for the site. According to Project Engineer Jim Lamp, whether some tenants come to the site depends on whether others come. However, he declined to specify which tenants are needed for others to come.
