Reply*sniffle* Thank YOU, Mel. I'll save the bulk of my mush for my own farewell column, but I do have to say that for the past nearly-three-years you have made Newton Patch what it is, have made Newton a better and better-informed place to live, and have pretty much taught me everything I know about being a news writer. You've also been a great friend, and I'm going to miss you. Super excited for your new opportunity, but Newton and Newton Patch are definitely going to feel your absence.

ReplyWell done, Charlie. Reading your words on this subject over the past couple of days has been a real pleasure, and I will continue to be impressed with your ability to balance great reporting with the understandable expression of your very human feelings on a subject so close to home.

ReplyHi there, eager eaters! I have to add a comment to my own recipe: yesterday, when I made these, they were really tasty even if they looked pretty ugly. Today, only 24 hours later and stored in an air-tight container, they were decided less tasty and almost inedibly dense. I think if I were going to make them again (which I will next year), I'd stick with plain matzo meal and maybe increase the amount of water to a cup and a quarter. And the original recipe I was tinkering with had 3 eggs added and a 4th only if the mixture weren't too loose (which was DEFINITELY not the problem), so you could always go with this method and the additional water to ensure moister and fluffier "bagels."

Stephanie- I don't know where you were checking, but the notice was definitely up on both the Shake Shack website's Chestnut Hill page AND their Facebook page, as well as on The Street's website (I had gone on to confirm that valet parking would be available). I'm sorry you were disappointed, though- you really should give it another shot! :D

I actually am going to have to buy a car when I get out to CA, and though I have loved being a Subaru girl for the past decade plus it doesn't make sense to have AWD and not great mileage out there. So I'm going between a new Toyota Prius C Three (I need the hands-free bluetooth on the steering wheel in CA and it has a sun/moonroof) OR a new Honda Fit Sport (Nav system + bluetooth) OR a used Lexus Hybrid.
My best friend has had a Yaris for 4 years and loves it, btw, but the Prius C has the Yaris body with the hybrid engine, so...
