Waltham Fire states fire involving "elderly housing."
The Waltham Fire Department is fighting a "working fire" at 125 Pine St. at the intersection of Elm Street which the department is calling an "Elderly housing fire." Updated, May 6: The fire was not at an elderly housing facility. See Monday story for details.

Spill occurred earlier today at the Mobil at the corner of Lexington and Trapelo.
A customer-caused fuel spill has temporarily shut down the Mobil station at the corner of Lexington Street and Trapelo Road, Waltham Fire officials confirmed today. The spill, which occurred earlier today, March 30, prompted a response by local and state agencies. A hazmat team has been brought in to help clean the spilled fuel. The Trapelo Mobil will remain closed while authorities work to clean the fuel spill, which could be completed later today, Waltham Fire officials said.

The Waltham Fire and Police departments responded to Willow Street last night for a report of a car fire. First reports on Twitter came at 11:11 p.m. for a working fire at 205 Willow Street, where a car was reportedly on fire in a commerical garage. The car was believed to be a small pickup truck. There were no reports of injuries. No one at the fire department's general line pick up the phone for comment. Det. Sgt. Tim King was not available for comment Sunday morning.

The Waltham Fire Department is hosting an open house on Sunday, Oct. 14 at its Lexington Street headquarters as part of National Fire Prevention Week. From 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. the station will be open for tours of the building, equipment, according to the Fire Department. Patches the fire dog will also be visiting. Free pizza and drinks will also be available.

The Waltham Fire Department is warning residents they may see rusty water from their taps soon, but for a good reason.
Don't be surprised if you have rusty water soon. The Waltham Fire Department will begin conducting fire hydrants throughout the city on Aug. 1, according to a press release from the department. The testing may cause some water to appear rusty. The tests will end on Aug. 31 "Chief Ciccone recommends that all persons who may use water for cooking, drinking, or laundering during this period run their faucets until their water is free of rust. He advises citizens to watch for Fire Engines in their neighborhood as a sign that hydrant testing is in progress," the fire department wrote in their press release.

Waltham Police and Fire responded to a simulated car and train collision on June 10 by 110 Beaver Street.
Imagine your car has stalled on the train tracks. Just behind you, a tractor trailer is driving full steam in your direction. To your right, a commuter rail train blows its horn as it approaches you. The result of this simulated catastrophe was precisely what Waltham Police and Fire responded to on the morning of June 10 by 110 Beaver Street. With the help of an army of volunteers, first responders were able to train and prepare for the worst. Specifically, the drill had a train crash into a hitting a car which hit a tanker truck, according to Boston.com. The tanker truck started leaking and firefighters applied foam to clean it up. The MBTA and Waltham Fire Department will simulate a train crash on Sunday, June 10.
The Waltham Fire Department and MBTA will be conducting a training drill Sunday, June 10 which will simulate a train crash. The drill begins at 7:30 a.m. and will run until 12:30 p.m. It will be held at the train crossing near Waverly Oaks Road. Beaver Street from Waverly Oaks Road to Warren Street will be closed during that time. The MBTA will bring a commuter train up to the crossing and place it against a car to simulate the crash. Then, the Waltham Fire Department will respond as if it were a real incident. The drill is intended to give first responders specialized training to responding to this and similar incidents.

Teenager taken to hospital with serious hand injury.
A 16 year-old Waltham teenager severly cut the fingers on his right hand this afternoon, according to the Waltham Fire Department. Waltham firefighters responded to 47 Chester Ln. at 1:57 p.m. and found the teenager conscious and with a bandaged he put on his hand, according to Waltham Fire Lt. Michael Murphy. The teen had lost consciousness prior to first responders arriving, but was concious when firefighters arrived. His fingers were still attached. The teen was transported by ambulance to a local hospital, according to Murphy. There was no word on how the teen injured himself.

The cause of the fire was welding from work being done at the building.
UPDATED, 4:10 p.m.: The cause of today's fire was welding performed by workmen at the entrance to the six-story building, according to Waltham Fire Department Lt. Michael Murphy. With the fire burning on the interior center walls of the building, firefighters quickly evacuated the building's residents to the wings of the facility behind doors that would protect them from flames, Murphy said. The residents are back in the building, he said.
