John Lawn Wins Democratic Primary For 10th Middlesex State Rep. Seat

Lawn will face Republican James Dixon in the general election on Tuesday, May 10.

For nearly an hour after the polls closed at 8 p.m., the mood at Shopper's Cafe in Waltham was one of nervous excitement, as more than 50 supporters of John Lawn waited anxiously for the results of the Democratic primary election for the 10th Middlesex District state representative seat. Shortly after 9 p.m., the crowd erupted into cheers — Lawn, a Watertown Town Councilman, had won the Democratic nomination, over three other Democratic candidates. Lawn now faces Republican James Dixon, of Waltham in the Tuesday, May 10 special general election. As a Newton resident, I saw little interaction from the canddiates with Newton except for Mr. Ciccone and Mr. Marchese--Mr. Lawn could have been on another planet. But he won his home turf and that put him over. Mr. Marchese came very close. If Mr. Durkee had not run, I think he might have won. UPDATED ELECTION BLOG: John Lawn Wins Democratic Primary for Middlesex State Rep

Watertown Town Councilman John Lawn will face Republican James Dixon in general election on May 10.

9:40 p.m., Ciccone HQ: Earlier tonight, Ciccone thanked his supporters and asked them to "get behind our Democrat" and support Lawn for the May 10 special election. Ciccone received 389 votes out of a total 613 votes cast in Newton.  Lawn received 103 of the total votes in Newton, with the most coming in from Ward 1 Precinct 1 (45 votes). 9:08 p.m, Lawn HQ: Patch reporter Matt Tempesta reporting Lawn has officially won the Democratic primary.  9:05 p.m., Durkee HQ: Durkee just said he called Lawn and conceded the race.  8:50 p.m., Ciccone HQ: Ciccone has stepped outside to call Lawn to concede the race. uh Bostonrob, you sure spend a lot of time in the 'burbs for a Bostonrob. But at least your'e bright enough to admit that Watertown roads are in crap shape.
