Waltham's Top News, Nov. 19 - Nov. 23: Fraud, New Building

The city detailed what is being built at the corner of Lexington Street and Trapelo Road. Blasting at the former Polaroid site has been extended.  A Massachusetts State Police trooper was hit by a car in Waltham. A Middlesex County Sheriff's worker was charged with fraud.

State Trooper Hit By Car In Waltham

The trooper was struck on Route 128 south in Waltham.

A Massachusetts State Police Trooper suffered minor injuries on Nov. 20 when his cruiser was struck by another car on Routh 128 south in Waltham, according to FOX 25. The trooper, a K-9 officer, had his dog in the car, but the dog was not injured, according to FOX 25. The trooper had been working a construction detail, according to WHDH-TV.  The crash occurred around 4 a.m., according to WBZ-TV. An elderly man was driving the car that struck the trooper. That man was taken to the hospital. The accident is under investigation.

Sobriety Checkpoint Scheduled For Today, Tomorrow

State police on the lookout for people drinking and driving.

The Massachusetts State Police will be conducting a motor vehicle sobriety checkpoint Friday, Sept. 14 into Saturday, Sept. 15, somewhere within Middlesex County, which includes Waltham, according to a state police press release. Police will be stopping vehicles to find potentially drunk drivers between somewhere in Middlesex County, which includes Burlington. As is normal practice, police do not disclose the hours or locations of the checkpoints. "The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways," a State Police statement reads.
