Waltham Councilor Wants Traffic Plan

Waltham City Councilor Thomas Stanley believes the city needs to have a more coordinated approach in dealing with traffic.

Waltham City Councilor Thomas Stanley is pushing for the city to create a master traffic plan that would help ease the traffic situation in Waltham. The plan, if approved, would appropriate $700,000 over three years, to review and update the city’s master traffic plan, according to the Traffic Commission’s Dec. 19 minutes. The plan would use an additional $300,000 the city has from a previously unfinished development, Stanley told Waltham Patch.  "What I would like to see is for the city to set aside some money annually," Stanley said. If approved, a consultant would be hired to determine what improvements can be done to improve the traffic situation in Waltham, Stanley told Waltham Patch. I've thought for a long time that overhead lane signs are the most sensible way to go. Is there a resistance to this? We really do need clear signage in this city--nay, in the entire Commonwealth! It never ceases to amaze me how inadequate and poor the traffic signage is throughout the state. It's a wonder there aren't more accidents than we already have. TRAFFIC ALERT: Avoid Waltham Intersection Today

See which road you should avoid during your commute home today.

According to Waltham Police, road work will begin at 2 p.m. on Linden Street near the Waverly Oaks Road intersection.  Police, via their Twitter feed, said motorists should avoid the area and expect serious traffic delays. Police said a water leak had sprung in that area. 

UPDATE: State Police: 18-year-old Man Killed While Crossing 128 in Newton

Drivers can expect significant delays on Route 128 north and south after a pedestrian was struck and killed in Newton this morning.

[Update: 12:32 p.m.] State police say the victim was an 18-year-old man, who they believe was trying to cross the street. Next-of-kin is being notified. ---- More than three hours after a pedestrian was struck and killed on Route 128 in Newton, traffic is still backed up in the north and southbound lanes of the highway. Route 128 south appears to still be at a standstill between Burlington (Route 3) and Newton, according to Google Maps traffic. The northbound side has moderate to heavy traffic through Needham to the Mass Pike. According to a State Police statement, the pedestrian was struck and killed on Route 128 this morning near the Newton rest area, between Route 16 and Grove Street.
