Assistant District Attorney Suzanne Kontz is prosecuting Waltham Police Chief THomas LaCroix on domestic violence cases.
With the domestic violence charges against Waltham Police Chief Thomas LaCroix proceeding through the court system, the lead prosecutor in the case may be familiar to some. Assistant District Attorney Suzanne Kontz, the head of the Domestic Violence Unit for the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office, has a long and successful history of putting batterers in prison. Kontz won the 2011 conviction of Soulemayne Yacouba-Issa, a Taunton man who killed his girlfriend Maryse Antoine, a Waltham resident, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office. A brutal assault on the wife of Waltham Police Chief Thomas LaCroix and her friend was just part of the reason a judge ordered LaCroix released to a mental health facility and to wear a GPS bracelet. Also, court papers reveal that LaCroix's wife told him she was seeking a divorce. They also indicate LaCroix accused his wife of having an affair. While LaCroix’s attorney, Peter Bella, and Assistant District Attorney Suzanne Kontz agreed on 12 of the 13 condition’s of LaCroix’s release, they disagreed on the state’s request for the GPS bracelet to track LaCroix. Waltham Police Chief Thomas LaCroix's dangerousness hearing continues on Thursday, June 21 at 2 p.m. at Concord District Court. The hearing was delayed on Tuesday June 19 after attorneys on both sides agree to find a mental health facility for LaCroix to enter. Lacroix was arrested on Thursday, June 14 on chagres that he attacked his wife at their Maynard home. LaCroix is currently being held without pail pending the outcome of the hearing which will determine whether he is a threat to himself or others. Waltham Police Chief Thomas LaCroix may head to a mental health facility.
Attorneys are seaching for a mental health facility for Waltham Police Chief Thomas LaCroix in the wake of his recent arrest for allegedly attacking his wife at their Maynard home. LaCroix's attorney, Peter Bella, made the request during a dangerousness hearing at Concord District Court on Tuesday, June 19. If the proper facility cannot be found, LaCroix will continue his dangerousness hearing on Thursday, June 21, according to Middlesex County District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Stephanie Guyotte. The spokesman described it only as a treatment facility, but the prosectuor, during the hearing, said they were searching for a mental health facility. As Waltham Police Chief Thomas LaCroix heads to a court hearing scheduled for Tuesday, his temporary replacement could stay in place for up to six months, according to the Boston Globe. Acting Police Chief Keith MacPherson could remain acting chief for three months from his appointment last week without having approval from the City Council, according to the Globe. He could then serve another three months without approval, Waltham Mayor Jeanette McCarthy told the Globe. After six months, the City Council would have to approve a replacement, McCarthy told the Globe.
