Waltham City Councilors denied a funding request that would have paid for an internal affairs investigation of Waltham Police Chief Thomas LaCroix.
Jury selection for the trial of Waltham Police Chief Thomas LaCroix has been postponed until March 27, according to Acting Waltham Police Chief Keith MacPherson. MacPherson acknowledged the development during a Monday, Feb. 4 Waltham City Council Finance Committee meeting. LaCroix is facing serious assault charges for allegedly attacking his wife and her friend at their Maynard home in June of 2012. LaCroix is currently on paid leave from the Waltham Police Department. MacPherson said the trial was delayed because the prosecutor had a scheduling conflict. Acting police chief is filling in for Thomas LaCroix, who remains on leave as he faces serious charges.
The Waltham City Council has reappointed Acting Police Chief Keith MacPherson as Thomas LaCroix remains out on administrative leave. The Waltham City Council on Monday, Dec. 10 approved MacPherson remaining as the Acting Chief in place of LaCroix. LaCroix is facing serious charges for allegedly attacking his wife and her friend in June. MacPherson took over for LaCroix immediately after the incident. Jury selection for LaCroix's trial is scheduled to begin in February. Mayor Jeanette McCarthy has previously said she is waiting for the outcome of the criminal case before making a decision on whether to replace LaCroix.

Waltham Police Chief Thomas LaCroix is accused of domestic battery stemming from a June incident.
A Concord District Court judge on Wednesday ordered more lenient conditions of release for Waltham Police Chief Thomas LaCroix. LaCroix, who is free on bail pending charges for domestic assault against his wife her friend, appeared in court on Aug. 8 for a pre-trial hearing. He was recently released from a mental health facility. As part of his release conditions, LaCroix is living with his 86-year-old mother in Medfield, according to his attorney, Thomas Dreschler. Judge Deborah Shoptesse approved LaCroix's request for more freedom as he remains free on bail. Waltham Police Chief Thomas LaCroix is accused of beating his wife.
Waltham Police Chief Thomas LaCroix has been released from the mental health facility he was sent to in June after allegedly attacking his wife, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office. LaCroix, who is currently on paid leave from the police department, is now under home confinement in the care of a family member, according to DA spokesman Stephanie Guyotte. She had no information on when LaCroix was released. LaCroix had been scheduled for a pre-trial hearing on Thursday, Aug. 2 at Concord District Court, but it was continued to Wednesday, Aug. 8 at 9 a.m., Guyotte said. Waltham Mayor wants to change rule that would allow police chief to return to his prior rank.
Saying she is concerned about a city rule that would allow Waltham Police Chief Thomas LaCroix to return to the department at a lower rank, Mayor Jeanette McCarthy plans to propose a change in the ordinance. McCarthy, however, in a recent interview with Waltham Patch, said she is not sure whether a change in rule would impact LaCroix’s chances of returning to the police department. “I don’t agree with [the existing rule] I think it’s flawed,” McCarthy told Waltham Patch.
