Mayor Jeannette McCarthy has said she will not seek another term.
Waltham City Councillor Thomas Stanley says he plans to run for mayor in the 2015 election. Stanley, who is also a State Representative, told Waltham Patch in an email, "It is far too early to announce a mayoral run or start a mayoral campaign. However, when the appropriate time comes I intend to be a candidate for mayor of Waltham in the 2015 election." Stanley is the first candidate to publicy declare he will run. Stanley's comments come months after Mayor Jeannette McCarthy announced she would not seek a fourth term. Stanley, a Waltham resident, is a graduate of Waltham High School and has a master's degree from Suffolk University, according to the Boston Globe. He also holds a bachelor's degree from Bentley University.

Waltham Mayor Jeannette McCarthy is scheduled to answer questions tonight, Monday, March 4, on the city’s performance in clearing snow during the recent blizzard. McCarthy and Consolidated Public Works Director Michael Chiasson are scheduled to appear at the City Council’s Committee of the Whole meeting at 8 p.m. at City Hall to answers the council’s questions on snow clearing during the storm. The Council requested McCarthy and Chiasson answer questions after many residents complained the city did an inadequate job clearings roads and sidewalks.

Waltham Police Chief Thomas LaCroix is facing charges for allegedly attacking his wife and her friend.
The Waltham City Council’s Finance Committee will review and discuss Mayor Jeannette McCarthy’s request to fund an internal affairs investigation of Waltham Police Chief Thomas LaCroix during its meeting tonight. LaCroix is facing serious charges for allegedly attacking his wife and her friend at his Maynard home in June 2012. He is currently on paid administrative leave and under house arrest. McCarthy has requested $10,000 from the city’s general fund to hire a retired state police officer to conduct the investigation. The investigation would determine whether LaCroix broke any of the police department’s rules and could lead to disciplinary action. New system would be simpler to manage, mayor says.
Waltham Mayor Jeannette McCarthy says she will implement a new, much simpler system to clear snow from the city’s roads. McCarthy, who announced on Feb. 12 that she would not seek another term, told Waltham Patch she plans to impose a new system under which four private contractors would plow the city’s streets, instead of the current system, which has many contractors covering different sections of the city. City-owned trucks and crews operate mostly on city-owned land. Also, McCarthy said she plans to switch to paying contractors on a per-inch basis instead of the current hourly rates. Mayor Jeannette McCarthy said today she will not seek re-election in the 2015 mayoral race. McCarthy, whom Waltham Patch users have recently criticized for her handling of the snowstorm, said she told several city councilors in January 2012 that she would not seek a fourth term.
