The License Commission could close the bar permanently if problems continue, officials say.
The Waltham License Commission has suspended alcohol and food service at Guanachapi’s Bar & Grill on River Street after repeated liquor violations, according to Commissioner Robert Hardiman. The commission, at its Jan. 22 meeting, ordered the bar closed for two weeks for “repeat over-pouring,” Hardiman told Waltham Patch. The suspension lasts until Feb. 13, Hardiman said. The bar can reopen on Feb. 14. Specifically, the suspension stems from two indicents in September and December 2012, in which drivers allegedly drove drunk after leaving Guanachapi's. Sadie's Saloon & Eatery located off of Moody Street closed on Friday, Oct. 19, according to a local restaurant blog. Hidden Boston, which tracks Boston-area restaurant news, reported the longtime eatery closed on Friday. The bar's Facebook page confirmed the closing in an Oct. 19 posting. No details were given on the reason for the closing. However, reviews on Yelp were largely positive.

License commissions has proposed to issue more liquor licenses.
A public hearing to gather citizen input on the proposal to issue more liquor licenses will be held May 14, the City Council announced last night. City Council Robert Waddick during last night's Council meeting that hearing would be held at 7 p.m. at City Hall. Another hearing will be held at a later date. The proposal, if approved, would allow additional liquor licenses to be issued to specific locations the city is looking to develop.

Waltham officials are considering whether to issue more liquor licenses. The License Commission has proposed issuing several new liquor licenses, according to City Council Vice President Kenneth Doucette, who chaired a City Council/License Commission meeting on the issue on Monday, April 2. Good! The patrons of this restaurant at night are absolutely obnoxious. I live right near by and when the bar lets out at night the lovely patrons of this classy establishment are so respectful! Loud, beeping horns, public urination. This establishment should be shut down!   more ›
