[VIDEO] City Breaks Ground on New Main Street Bank

Brookline Bank is building a new branch at the intersection of Newton and Main Streets.

Bank and city officials broke ground on the site of a new Brookline Bank on Aug. 21. Brookline Bank is building a new branch at the intersection of Newton and Main Streets, the former site of Sal's Pizza that was destroyed in a fire for years ago.  Check out the video for more details.

Brookline Bank Coming to Waltham

Issue to be discussed at future meeting.

Remember the bank proposed for the intersection of Newton and Main Streets? Well, that bank will be a branch of Brookline Bank. Project officials on Monday, April 23 revealed that the Brookline-based company would be opening a branch at the intersection. The original proposal to develop the site was made months ago, but the developer, 8 Newton St. LLC, revealed on Monday which bank would occupy the site. The issue was referred to the Ordinance and Rules Committee for further discussion, a standard move for special permit requests. If approved, it would be the company's first Waltham location. The design is attractive, and a definite improvement over the current unkempt vacant lot. Banks are not noisy, not likely to contribute to rush-hour traffic. And they will contribute more tax revenue to Waltham than the empty lot.   more ›

Bank Proposed For Waltham Lot

The bank will be a local one, and not a large retail chain bank.

Ever drive by the corner of Newton and Main Streets and wonder what will eventually fill that vacant lot? Turns out a bank is planning to open a retail branch at the site, where Sal’s Pizza stood before it burned down four years ago. While officials cannot yet reveal which  will be located there, Attorney Bob Connors, who represents the landowners, 8 Newton St. LLC, told Waltham Patch last week that the project is progressing. The bank, however, will be a local one and not a large chain bank. The company is seeking a special permit from the city’s planning board that would allow for two new driveways, an entrance and exit, on Main Street, according to Connors. Ryan please....you know exactly what I mean. The reason that property has been vacant for years is because only the city council can decide what goes there. Just like with Bickfords, Main St. Ford and the lot behind Marcellino's and the one next to the train station on Moody and many other properties.
