The following letter is from State Rep. Thomas Stanley, D-Waltham to the Federal Aviation Administration regarding its proposal to alter air traffic routes that would bring additional aircraft noise to parts of Waltham. ---------- Dear Ms. English, Hope all is well. I am writing to you to express my concerns in regards to the Federal Aviation Administration’s plan to implement a new departure course from Runway 33L, within Boston Logan International Airport, scheduled for March 7. This new departure course could have a sizeable effect on the City of Waltham and the Town of Lincoln, which I represent, as part of the Ninth Middlesex District. The Federal Aviation Administration’s proposal to update the National Airspace System increases …

Waltham City Councilor Thomas Stanley believes the city needs to have a more coordinated approach in dealing with traffic.
Waltham City Councilor Thomas Stanley is pushing for the city to create a master traffic plan that would help ease the traffic situation in Waltham. The plan, if approved, would appropriate $700,000 over three years, to review and update the city’s master traffic plan, according to the Traffic Commission’s Dec. 19 minutes. The plan would use an additional $300,000 the city has from a previously unfinished development, Stanley told Waltham Patch. "What I would like to see is for the city to set aside some money annually," Stanley said. If approved, a consultant would be hired to determine what improvements can be done to improve the traffic situation in Waltham, Stanley told Waltham Patch. Stanley said the issue is important especially …

State Rep. Thomas Stanley, D-Waltham, says he won't have a "kneejerk" reaction to proposed tax increases.
One of Waltham’s state representatives said he and other lawmakers plans to carefully consider Gov. Deval Patrick’s proposed hikes in several taxes. “My approach is going to be to take time and read and comprehend all of the governor's proposals," said State Rep. Thomas Stanley, D-Waltham. Stanley, who also serves as a Waltham City Councilor, said he wants to carefully examine what impacts new taxes would have on public safety, local aid and taxpayers before taking a position on the issue. “We’re not going to make any kneejerk decisions,” Stanley said. Patrick’s plans include applying the sales tax to soda, candy and alcohol, which are currently exempt from taxation. He is also calling for a $1 tax hike on tobacco products to $3.51 in …

The following is a letter to the editor.
The following was submitted as a letter to the editor by State Reps. Thomas Stanley, Michael Barrett and John Lawn. We are proud to represent a city so rich with history, especially as we celebrate the bicentennial anniversary of the Francis Cabot Lowell at the Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation in Waltham. Though many of us drive by the “Mill” every day, few people are aware of its special historical contribution to Waltham, the Commonwealth, and the nation. In 1810, Francis Cabot Lowell, during a time when the nation still depended on other countries for manufactured goods, visited the mills of Manchester, England and saw both power spinning mills and power weaving mills. Convinced that he could reinvent the machinery, …

The following is a letter to the editor from State Rep. Thomas Stanley. Veterans Day is a celebration to honor and thank America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. On Veterans Day, we are reminded of the worth of our freedom, as we pause to honor and remember the fallen and show our appreciation for those still among us. We recognize the millions of veterans we think of not just as veterans, but as neighbors, relatives, friends and colleagues. Our veterans and their families are all around us in our community, and they make great efforts to avoid recognition, and very rarely ask for help. In Masssachusetts alone, there are more than 350,000 veterans, including …
