Middlesex County Sobriety Checkpoints Scheduled for Thanksgiving Weekend

Massachusetts State Police announce when drunk driver checkpoints will be set up in Middlesex County.

Massachusetts State Police will set up sobriety checkpoints somewhere in Middlesex County over Thanksgiving weekend, from Friday, Nov. 23 into Saturday. Nov. 24. The state police say the purpose for the checkpoints "is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways.  It will be operated during varied hours, the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety."

Sounds wonderful, I'm all for drunk drivers staying off the roads 365 days a year! What I can't help but wonder about is how much this "noble initiative" might be more of a farce for State troopers to get more overtime pay to boost their pensions? At a deeper level of concern, unless there is evidence of erratic driving (i.e. reasonable cause) how does this differ from gestapo check points?   more ›

Sobriety Checkpoint Scheduled For This Weekend

Don't drink and drive.

Massachusetts State Police will hold a sobriety checkpoint this weekend in Middlesex County, which includes Waltham. The checkpoint will be start Saturday, July 21 and end the next day. In line with standard practice, State Police are not releasing the location and times of the checkpoint.  "The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways.  It will be operated during varied hours, the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety," a State Police …

Sobriety Checkpoint Scheduled For This Weekend

Here is a great reason to not drink and drive this weekend.

The State Police will be conducting a motor vehicle sobriety checkpoint on Saturday, June 23 into Sunday, June 24 somewhere within Middlesex County which includes Waltham, according to a state police press release. "It will be operated during varied hours, the selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety," the press release reads. "The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and, or drugs from our roadways."
