Waltham's Top News This Week: More Police Troubles

Waltham Police Chief Thomas LaCroix, who is facing serious criminal charges, recevied a large bonus while on paid leave.  More conditions of release emerged for the Waltham Police officer facing child pornography chagres. A Waltham City Councillor lent his support to a proposed Starbucks in Waltham.  The Massachusetts Republican Party announced it would file an ethics complaint against Massachusetts Congressman over special U.S. Senate campaign.

Starbucks Hearing Set For Tonight

A Starbucks has been proposed for the former Polaroid site.

The public hearing for a proposed Starbucks at the former Polaroid site in Waltham will be held at 8 p.m. at City Hall on Monday, March 25.  Starbucks is seeking a special permit to operate a drive-thru window at the 1265 Main St. development. They are also requesting a seperate fast food permit.  If approved, it would be the city's first Starbucks. Two prior attempts to open Starbucks locations in Waltham failed.  Other tenenats planned for the Polaroid site include Market Basket, TD Bank, Marshall's, Jake 'n Joes and Bonefish Grille.

City Council To Discuss New Waltham Bank Proposal Tonight

TD Bank has proposed a new location at the former Polaroid site.

The public hearing for a proposed bank at the former Polaroid site in Waltham will be held tonight at 8 p.m. at City Hall. TD Bank is requesting a special permit to operate a drive-thru at the site, however, they do not need a permit to operate without one.  Marshall's, Market Basket, TD Bank, Jake 'n Joes and Bonefish Grill are all slated to open locations at the site. Starbucks has also proposed a location.

Marshall's, Market Basket, TD Bank, Jake 'n Joes and Bonefish Grill are all slated to open locations at the site. Starbucks has also proposed a location for the site.

The public hearing for a proposed Starbucks location at the former Polaroid site will be held on Monday, March 25.  If approved, it would be Waltham's first Starbucks location. Two previous proposals were shot down by city officials.  Specifically, Starbucks is requesting a special permit to operate a fast food establishment at 1265 Main St. (the Polaroid site) and a seperate permit to operate a drive-thru window, according to the City Clerk's office. The hearing starts at around 8 p.m. at City Hall.  Marshall's, Market Basket, TD Bank, Jake 'n Joes and Bonefish Grill are all slated to opens location at the site.

Waltham Residents Angry With Work At Polaroid Site

Also, developers named a new tenant for the site.

Abutters of the planned retail complex at the former Polaroid site loudly denounced the project during a Jan. 24 public meeting saying blasting at the site was causing damage to their homes. Blasting company officials, however, said they are operating within the laws. The brouhaha emerged during a Thursday, Jan. 24 meeting with project officials for the complex, currently known as 1265 Main St. The project will span 280,000 square feet with 100,000 square feet of office space. Construction at the site is slated to begin in May or June, according to J & Co. Project Manager Rick Vallarelli. Developers previously said they expect phase one of the build out, including the planned Market Basket, will partially open by the end of 2013. As with …
