Waltham Mayor Among Highest Salaries in Boston Area

Here's a look at what mayors in and around Boston earn annually, including Waltham Mayor Jeannette McCarthy.

Waltham Mayor Jeannette McCarthy has one of the highest salaries of mayors in the greater Boston area.  McCarthy's annual salary is just below Newton Mayor Setti Warren's in a survey of 13 Boston-area communities.  The following chart does not include every Boston-area mayor, but is compiled from the latest data we've been able to find and ranges all the way from $73,000 to $175,000: * Kennedy currently earns $82,500, but that's due to a dispute over how the mayor's salary is set. The Daily Item of Lynn reports the Lynn City Council last voted on that salary in 1998 and since then the mayor has been considered a department head with a negotiated salary and other perks. Former Mayor "Chip" Clancy earned more than $145,000 his last year in …

Waltham/Newton Mayors Square Off in Football Bet

The mayors of Newton and Waltham are betting outings in the cities based on the outcome of the Sept. 8 Newton North High School vs. Waltham High School football game.

The Newton North Tigers and Waltham Hawks football teams are not the only people banking on winning their scheduled Sept. 8 rivalary game. Newton Mayor Setti Warren and Waltham Mayor Jeanette McCarthy have wagered outings their towns. The wager -- a tour of Prospect Hill Park in Waltham and a lunch or dinner meal at a Waltham restaurant and a meal O'Hara's Food & Spirits in Newton and ice cream at Cabot's in Newton. McCarthy and Warren met briefly on Sept. 5 at Waltham City Hall to officially place their bets. Setti Warren: "I Did Not See a Clear Path to Victory" [Video]

Newton Mayor Setti Warren announced Thursday morning that he is dropping out of the U.S. Senate race.

NEWTON — Under rainy skies and aside a small crowd of local supporters, the mood and setting was decidedly different from Mayor Setti Warren's campaign launch at Newton's American Legion Post 440 less than five months ago.  Warren, whose campaign has been overshadowed by financial difficulties and larger-than-life Democratic opponents, announced this morning he is dropping out of the race for U.S. Senate. "I got into this race for one reason and one reason only, to beat Scott Brown," Warren said in a press conference Thursday morning. "And I’m getting out for one reason and one reason only, because I no longer believe that I have a clear path to victory in this race."  At a podium in front of his Newton home on Beaumont Avenue, Warren …

Mayor Jeanette McCarthy and Newton Mayor Setti Warren have something to lose — money spent on a bet. Video: Newton Mayor Warren Kicks Off Senate Campaign

The Newton mayor and his wife Tassy greeted friends and family and touched on issues of his campaign.

It was a room of familiar local faces yesterday morning as Newton Mayor Setti Warren greeted a crowd of supporters at American Legion Post 440 in Nonantum. Warren, who announced his bid for the U.S. Senate Monday, held his campaign kick-off yesterday as he works for the Democratic nod to capture the seat held by the current junior U.S. Senator from Massachusetts, Scott Brown. Much of Warren's stump speech mirrored that of his campaign video released Monday, with highlights of his work balancing budgets in Newton, serving as a naval intelligence officer in Iraq and the time spent working with former President Clinton and Massachusetts' senior U.S. Senator John Kerry. The speech also focused on the hard work and service of Warren's father, …
