Waltham marked the 11th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks this morning with a short ceremon in front of the Waltham Fire Department.

Waltham Firefighters to Mark September 11 Anniversary

The public is welcome to attend the fire department ceremony.

The Waltham Fire Department will mark this year's September 11 anniversary with a ceremony in honor of the 343 firefighters who died responding to the terrorist attacks. The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Fire Department headquarters at 175 Lexington St., according to the fire department's website. The ceremony starts at 8:45 a.m. The ceremony is open to the public.

Waltham Remembers Native Who Died On 9/11

John Wenckus died in the 9/11 attacks a decade ago.

While he was not a Waltham resident when he died 10 years ago, Waltham residents today remembered Waltham native John Wenckus, 46, of who died in the Sept. 11 attacks. Wenckus was a 46-year-old Torrance, Calif., resident when he died on American Airlines flight 11 which hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. Wenckus’s family, including his mother, Joan, laid a wreath in John’s honor during a ceremony today marking the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks. As she choked up with emotion after the ceremony, Joan Wenckus said her son was likely doing one his favorite activities. “He is up [in Heaven] playing golf with my husband,” she said. Waltham residents and city officials marked the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks today with dedication ceremony at the city's Circle of Remembrance on the City Common To view photos and video of the ceremony, click on the photo box to the right. Waltham To Mark 10th Anniversary Of 9/11 Today

Ceremony to be held on City Common at 2 p.m.

At 2 p.m. today, the city will mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks with a ceremony outside City Hall. Officials will dedicate 59 new bricks with names of veterans from Waltham to the Circle of Rememberance on the city common.  The names are those of veterans living and deceased who served in the military during peace and war times. After the dedication, a total of 2,093 bricks will be at the site. The first bricks were dedicated in October 2005. Stay tuned to Patch for updates on this story.
