A new principal has been chosen to lead Henry Whittemore Elementary School. The Waltham Public Schools district has hired Ross Mulkerin to lead the Whittemore school, according to Superintendent Susan Nicholson. Mulkerin current serves as the assistant director of special services for the Binghamton City School District in New York, Nicholson said. Mulkerin will become the third principal of the Whittemore school in two calendar years. He will replace former principal Sara Lane, who abruptly left her post in January after less than year on the job. The Waltham Public Schools hope to have a new Henry Whittemore Elementary School principal by July 1.
The search for a new Henry Whittemore Elementary School principal is progressing and school officials hope to hire a new leader by July 1. The search began recently after former principal Sara Lane suddenly resigned in January. School and city officials have said they can’t issue a detailed explanation because it was a personnel matter. Interim principal Chuck McInnis is currently running the school. An 11-member committee this week was scheduled to interview nine candidates for the job and hopes to narrow the pool to around three soon, according to Waltham Public Schools Interim Human Resource Administrator George Frost. Former Whittemore school principal Sara Lane resigned in January.
Despite repeated inquiries, Waltham Public School officials have not issued a specific explanation on the recent departure of former Henry Whittemore Elementary School principal Sara Lane. Interim Human Resources Administrator George Frost told Waltham Patch that Lane recently resigned from the district, but said because the issue was a personnel matter, and he could not comment further. “We don’t discuss those in public,” Frost said. Interim principal Charles McInnis has taken over as the head of the Henry Whittemore Elementary School.
A Waltham school principal recently resigned from her post less than a year after taking it, according to Waltham School Committee minutes. Sara Lane resigned on Jan. 11 as the principal of the Henry J. Whittemore Elementary School, according to minutes of the School Committee’s Jan. 16 meeting. Lane was hired in July 2012 to replace Deborah Butts. The committee accepeted Lane's resignation during that meeting. The minutes do not specify why she resigned. Longtime Waltham educator Charles McInnis has taken over as interim principal, according to the minutes. Parents and students will have the chance to meet the new Henry J.Whittmore Elementary School principal today at 4 p.m. From 4 p.m. - 6 p.m., Sara Lane will be holding a "meet the principal" event in the school's media center. Lane was recently named principal replacing former principal Deborah Butts.

Dr. Sara Lane has been named as the new principal for the Henry J. Whittemore Elementary School in Waltham.
The Waltham Public Schools have named Dr. Sara Lane as the new principal of the Henry J. Whittemore Elementary School. Waltham Public Schools Superintendent Susan Nicholson made the announcement July 3 in a letter to the community. “Please join me in wishing Dr. Lane great success in her new role as the principal of Whittemore Elementary School,” Nicholson wrote. Lane replaces Deborah Butts who resigned earlier this year saying the school needed a change in leadership.
