Two Taken To Hospital in Sunday Rollover on Route 128

The rollover occurred between exit 26 and Totten Pond Round

Two people suffered minor injuries on Sunday, Feb. 24 after the vehicle they were travelling in rolled over between exit 26 and Totten Pond Road on Route 128 in Waltham, according to the Waltham Fire Department.  At around 1:15 p.m. Waltham firefighters responded to a report of a rollover on the northbound side of Route 128 where they found two people standing outside of the only car involved in the crash, according to Waltham Fire Lt. Scott Perry. The pair sufered minor injuries to their hands, but as a precaution, Cataldo Ambulance took both to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, according to Perry. State Police also responded to the scene.

Rollover Reported in Waltham on Route 128

The rollover reportedly occurred between exits 26 and 27.

Waltham firefighters transported two people to the hospital after a car rolled over between exits 26 and 27 on Route 128 northbound, according to Twitter reports.  The accident occured around 1:30 p.m. in the high speed lane, according to Matt Carter and Mike Moura, both of whom tweet public safety incidents.  Stay tuned to Waltham Patch for updates.

Why Police Are Increasing Patrols of Route 128 Breakdown Lane

MassDOT has announced that driving on the Route 128 breakdown lane has been discontinued as a fourth travel lane is open.

  State Police are now looking out for drivers who use the breakdown lane on Route 128. In an effort to reduce the Route 128 bottlenecks between Route 24 and Route 9, the Mass Department of Transportation (MassDOT) added a fourth travel lane to I-93/95 along that stretch. With that addition, driving in the breakdown lane is now prohibited between Route 24 and Route 109.  Signs along the highways and State Police patrols will inform drivers of the change, according to a MassDOT announcement. The breakdown lane is now reserved for emergency vehicles and disabled cars.  According to the release, drivers have been able to use the breakdown lane on weekdays at peak hours with permission from the Federal Highway Adinistration since 1986. MassDOT Splitting Route 128 at Needham

Part of the southbound travel lane will be split after Friday, MassDOT says.

Starting Friday night, Jan. 18, the Mass Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is splitting part of I-95 (Route 128) to continue widening bridges across the Charles River.  Construction crews will create a traffic split formed along I-95 (Route 128) southbound near the Great Plain Avenue intersection in Needham, according to a press release from MassDOT. Two lanes will shift to the left, two to the right, around areas where construction crews will be working. UPDATE: Pedestrian Struck on Route 128 in Waltham; Life-Threatening Injuries

The accident involved a tractor trailer truck.

UPDATED, 10:36 p.m.: According to State Police, the victim was taken to  assachusetts General Hospital with life-threatening injuries. All lanes have reopened. State Police are investigating the crash.  --------- UPDATED, 10:30 p.m.: Massachusetts State Police have confirmed the incident via their Twitter feeding saying it involved a tractor trailer truck. ---- State Police are responding to reports of a pedestrian struck by a car on Route 128 north near the Route 20 overpass, according to Twitter and scanner reports.  The State Police Photograph and Reconstruction units have been requested to the scene.  Stay tuned to Waltham Patch for more information as it becomes available.

Waltham Man Saves Commuter From Burning Car

A New Bedford woman is safe after a Waltham man saved her form her burning car.

A Waltham man saved a New Bedford woman from a burning car on Route 128 on Sept. 5, according to FOX-25. Luke Tripp, of Waltham, was driving south on Route 128 near exit 18 when he noticed a car in front of him had smoke coming from it, according to FOX 25. He quickly got the driver's attention and she pulled over, but the car burst into flames. Tripp got a fire extinguisher from his truck and doused the fire with help two other motorists pulled the woman from the car, according to FOX 25. Nobody was injured, Tripp told FOX 25.

Multiple Car Crash on Route 128

One person was taken to the hospital for injuries.

A multiple car crash has been reported on Route 128 southbound near exit 26, according to scanner and Waltham Police Twitter reports. A least 3 cars were involved in the crash and one person was taken to the hospital for their injuries, Waltham Police Sgt. Dennis Deveney tweeted. State Police also responded to the scene, Deveney tweeted.  Authorities have cleared the scene, Deveney tweeted.

Waltham Man Involved in 128 Tanker Rollover, Fuel Spill

The rollover accident spilled thousands of gallons of gasoline on Route 128 on Monday, July 16.

Authorities believe that the gasoline tanker that rolled over on Route 128 in Woburn on Monday, July 16 was cut off by a passenger car. According to the Massachusetts State Police, in an attempt to exit off of Route 128 South, the car moved quickly from the second travel lane into the rightmost lane, close to the tanker. The car was believed to be slowing down to exit the highway, and the tanker truck was unable to stop, said authorities. "[The tanker] struck the passenger car, swerved and rolled over," said a MSP spokesman late Tuesday night. The driver of the tanker, Michael Cormier, 50, of Waltham, was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital by the Woburn Fire Department with non-life threatening injuries. The truck is owned by …

Retaining Wall on Waltham Part of 128 Down; Scene Cleared

Gravel from the wall collapse fell into the road.

A portion of retaining wall on Route 128 south has collapsed immediately north of Route 20, according to State Police.  While the scene is now cleared, the road was closed to all but one lane immediately after the incident, according to State Police. The state Department of Transportation has been notified.
