Waltham's Week In Review

Search for new school chief, local musicians and more.

The Waltham School Committee announced it would soon start interviews for a new school superintendent.  The district is looking for a new chief to replace former superintendent Peter Azar, who resigned last year. Now, interview are set to begin Friday, Jan. 24, and run through Monday, Feb. 11. The Connors Memorial Pool, currently closed, will reopen next summer, one renovations are complete. The state-owned pool has been closed since 2001, for safety and financial reasons. Waltham-based CaptureCode unveiled a new mobile phone application that allows users to more easily obtain discounts at their favorite merchants. Waltham Pool To Reopen Next Summer

Will be newly renovated.

Though it is not swimming season yet, officials say Waltham residents have something to look forward to this summer — the reconstruction of Connors Memorial Pool. The state Department of Conservation and Recreation, which owns the pool located at 330 River St., closed the dilapidated facility in 2001. It had been deemed unsafe and the DCR lacked money to restore it, according to spokesman Wendy Fox.  The state, however, is now investing $4.6 million dollars into the reconstruction of the entire pool, and says it is scheduled to reopen next summer, according to Fox. Construction Dynamics contracting firm, has submitted a repair plan, for which the DCR is awaiting for approval from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, according to Fox. …
