Biden-Ryan Vice Presidential Debate: Local GOP & Democrats React

Vice-presidential candidates Joe Biden and Paul Ryan squared off in debate last night, a week after presidential candidates Barack Obama and Mitt Romney had their first debate. Here's how Massachusetts Republicans and Democrats think their candidates did.

Massachusetts Democrats were more enthusiastic about Joe Biden's vice presidential debate performance than Bay State Republicans were about Paul Ryan's performance: that's the major finding of the Red and Blue Commonwealth flash polls sent out to local politicos immediately after the debate ended Thursday night. Biden and Ryan faced off on Thursday, Oct. 11 at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky, with ABC News' Martha Raddatz moderating the debate that covered both domestic and foreign policy. Of the 14 local influential Democrats who took the survey, 12 of them (85.7 percent) voted that Biden won by a large margin, with one voting that the current vice president won by a slim margin and one voting "neutral." Meanwhile, of the 25 local …

Paul Ryan-Joe Biden Debate: Who Do You Think 'Won'?

The sole vice-presidential debate is done; did either candidate change your mind?

With ABC's Martha Raddatz moderating, Vice-President Joe Biden and Rep. Paul Ryan tackled issues and each other's positions in a brisk debate Thursday night. As the three of them sat around a table at Centre College in Danville, Kentucky, issues touched on ranged from the deficit and taxes to the war in Afghanistan and abortion. On Friday, we'll hear from Republican and Democratic leaders and activists in Massachusetts about what they think about the debate. But first, now, we want to hear from you. What did you think?

Ryan won by default, as Biden defeated Biden. Somehow I don't think a giggle qualifies as an answer, or a snicker as a rebuttal. I've seen 10-year-olds conduct themselves with more maturity and articulation than our current VPOTUS.   more ›

Massachusetts Dems Say Ryan's Budget Plans Will Hurt GOP

Patch asked political influencers to react to the news Paul Ryan will be Mitt Romney's running mate.

Massachusetts Democrats believe that with Rep. Paul Ryan on the Romney ticket, Democrats can win by running against Ryan's existing budget plans, particularly his proposal for Medicare.  In a Blue Commonwealth Snap Poll survey sent out shortly after Romney announced Paul Ryan will be his running mate Saturday morning, Massachusetts Democrats reacted to the decision. "[The decision] defines Romney as a conservative who aligns himself with the tea party," one respondent said. "The Ryan Budget is regarded as "extreme" by its detractors. The Ryan Budget is controversial and Obama-Biden have to keep playing that card in a fitting manner," another political influencer answered. When asked if Romney's choice would help the Obama-Biden ticket …

SNAP POLL: Massachusetts Republicans Say Ryan Will Energize Campaign

Patch asked political influencers state-wide to react to the news Paul Ryan will be Mitt Romney's running mate.

An overwhelming majority of influential Republicans from Massachusetts say Mitt Romney's choice of running mate Paul Ryan, will galvanize the state GOP: that’s the finding of a Red Commonwealth Snap Poll survey of influential conservatives sent out after Saturday morning's announcement. When Patch asked Massachusetts Republicans if Paul Ryan as vice president would help undecided Massachusetts voters, the answers were split down the middle with half saying they strongly agree and the other half saying they strongly disagree. "He is incredibly smart and can convey concepts in easy-to-understand language," one respondent said was an advantage to having Ryan on the Romney ticket. Others noted Ryan's youth, ability to articulate himself and …

Here is a brilliant synopsis of the forthcoming presidential election debates that a friend posted on his Facebook page: The debates are going to be fun, the Dems better go to school as Romney knows more about Obamacare than Obama and Ryan knows more about the budget and the money side of Washington than anyone in Congresss or the White House. Prepare to watch several eviscerations. Pied Pipers …   more ›
