Newton Police have charged Gustavo A. Diaz, 44, of 49D Harvard St., Waltham, with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (pruning shears), police said. Police arrested Diaz after they responded to Newton-Wellesley Hospital on Monday, April 22 to speak with someone regarding a stabbing that had occurred earlier in the day on Farwell Road in Newton. According to the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office, Diaz was arraigned in Newton District Court on Tuesday, April 23, and released on personal recognizance. He was ordered not to abuse the victim and is due back in court for a pretrial conference on June 11, the DA's office said.

A Waltham man was arrested in the early morning hours of April 7 after he allegedly drove under the influence and crashed into parked cars in Newton. Angel Ledesma Fuerte, 30, of 7 Pine St., was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol (third offense), marked lanes violation and eight counts of open containers, Newton Police said. According to reports, police responded to Mague Avenue just after midnight on April 7 for reports of a drunk person in the driveway. When police arrived on scene, they found a driver asleep at the wheel of a black GMC Yukon. A Waltham man was arrested early on Aug. 31 in Newton after he allegedly fled a car accident and mislead police during an investigation. Osvin Gonzalez, 22, of 61 Calvary St., was charged with misleading, intimidation, obstructing and delaying an investigation, police said. According to reports, officers responded to an area near North Street in Newton and Albemarle Road just before 1 a.m. for reports of a car that had crashed into the brook. According to witnesses, the occupants of the vehicle fled toward Nevada Street. When officers they arrived on scene, they first went down into the brook and confirmed no one was in the vehicle. Michelle Connolly is facing charges stemming from a domestic incident.
A Newton woman was arrested twice in two days recently stemming from a single domestic incident, accroding to Waltham Police. Michelle Connolly, 24, of 8 River St., Newton, is facing charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, threatening to commit a crime and violating an abuse prevention order. Newton Police arrested Connolly on July 22, resulting in the assault charge, after she allegedly struck her boyfriend with his purse and fist at a Waltham location, according to Waltham Police Lt. Joe Brooks. As a result, her boyfriend obtaned a no contact order, Brooks said. She was later transported to Waltham Police headquarters, according to Brooks. A Waltham Police dog assisted Newton Police in capturing a man who led them on a chase through Newton on July 9. A motorcyclist who reportedly upset a female outside Newton City Hall led police on a brief chase through Auburndale Monday afternoon before he was arrested and charged with driving under the influence. Thomas Gregory, 35, of 12 Lower Brook Road in Sparrowbush, New York, was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol, violation of an abuse prevention order, failure to stop for police and resisting arrest. Police are looking for a driver in a white Chevy van who reportedly hit two Newton Police cruisers during a vehicle stop at the intersection of Crafts Street and North Street. According to Newton Police Lt. Bruce Apotheker, members of the Newton Police Drug Unit stopped the vehicle on Crafts Street to execute a warrant for trafficking cocaine. During the stop, the passenger, who was wanted on the warrant, fled the scene on foot. The driver also fled the scene in the van, hitting an unmarked Newton Police car and a Newton Police cruiser in the process. Man had outstanding warrants.
NEWTON -- A Waltham man was arrested Friday, March 9 after he was seen acting suspiciously near Derby Street and Parmenter Road. According to police reports, the suspicious person was walking up and down the street with a brown bag, placing the bag down and picking it back up again. After police discovered there was a warrant out for this person's arrest, several units responded to the area including a K-9 unit. Police found the suspicious man, later identified as William Childs, behind a residence on Rangley Road. Childs, 28, of 93 Hammond St. Unit B, was arrested on three active warrants out of Waltham District Court. Newton Police looking for a subject in a strong arm robbery earlier today.
Newton police are on the lookout for a suspect in a robbery reported at about 10:15 a.m. today, on River Street. No weapons were shown, but he wore a ski mask. Based on scanner reports, the suspect is described as a white male 5'5" tall, last seen wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, and all black baggy pants, sneakers and gloves. Waltham police are also on the lookout for this suspect. Patch will have more as it becomes available.
