The storm had dumped 11 inches of snow on Waltham by the end of Feb. 8.
After a day of snow in Waltham, the major snowstorm in Waltham is forecasted to continue for much of the day. According to WCVB-TV, by Friday Feb. 9, snowfall totals will likely total 18 -24 inches but 30 inches is possible in Waltham. The National Weather Service forecasted a high of 21 degrees with a wind chill factor of -3 degrees. Waltham will see winds of up to 26 miles per hour. As New Englanders, we commemorated the 35th anniversary of the storm earlier this week – and now Mother Nature is celebrating herself with what could be one of the biggest snowstorms in history. White out conditions are expected as the storm intensifies.
What began as a blizzard watch for the Waltham and the surrounding area has now been upgraded to a blizzard warning. The National Weather Service issued the warning for the majority of Eastern Massachusetts Thursday afternoon, as it anticipates about 2 feet of snow to descend upon the area Friday into Saturday. "White out conditions are anticipated as roads become snow-covered by the Friday evening commute," the warning states. "Strong north-northeast winds are anticipated with gusts up to around 60 miles per hour, resulting in blowing and drifting of snow. Waltham schools will be closed Feb. 8 due to the impending snow storm.
The Waltham Public Schools will be closed on Friday, Feb. 8, according to the schools' website, due to the snow storm that is expected to hit the area on Friday and into Saturday. The storm could dump in the vicinity of two feet of snow on Waltham, and the city has declared a snow emergency.
