City Councillor Tom Stanley announced the possible deal on Feb. 25.
The Waltham City Council is scheduled to discuss a possible deal in which the city would acquire the Fernald Center tonight, March 4. Councillors plans to discuss the idea at their Committee of the Whole meeting at City Hall at 8 p.m. Mayor Jeannette McCarthy is scheduled to update the councillors on the possible deal. The center currently provides services to developmentally-disabled residents. Many Waltham residents and officials say they are furious with the plowing job in Waltham.
City officials say they are furious about the job private contractor plow crews have done to clear snow from the city's streets, and Mayor Jeannette McCarthy said she plans to “rethink” how the city plows snow. “There is no excuse,” McCarthy told Waltham Patch about the shape private contractor plow crews have left many city streets in days after the storm. Waltham Mayor wants to change rule that would allow police chief to return to his prior rank.
Saying she is concerned about a city rule that would allow Waltham Police Chief Thomas LaCroix to return to the department at a lower rank, Mayor Jeanette McCarthy plans to propose a change in the ordinance. McCarthy, however, in a recent interview with Waltham Patch, said she is not sure whether a change in rule would impact LaCroix’s chances of returning to the police department. “I don’t agree with [the existing rule] I think it’s flawed,” McCarthy told Waltham Patch. LaCroix is facing charges of allegedly beating his wife and her friend. He is currently on paid administrative leave.
