Public safety officials and organizers had to thin the crowd considerably before the seven candidates for state senate in the Third Middlesex District could weigh in on the issues during an Aug. 15 candidates forum in Concord.
It’s probably been a little while now since the turnout for a candidates’ forum in the Third Middlesex District was a part of the story, but that changed this year. After the announcement in February that state Sen. Susan Fargo, D-Lincoln, would not seek a ninth term, a handful of new Democratic candidates emerged to join those who had already announced their intentions to run. Concord Democrats Joe Kearns Goodwin and Mara Dolan, along with Alex Buck of Chelmsford and Joe Mullin from Weston, threw their hats in the race, joining Republicans Greg Howes of Concord and Sandi Martinez of Chelmsford, and Mike Barrett, a Lexington Democrat, all of whom had declared candidicay before Fargo revealed her retirement plans. The excitement around this…

The following is a letter to the editor in support of Mara Dolan, a candidate for the 3rd Middlesex State Senate seat,
The following is a letter to the editor: Mara Dolan is the best candidate running for the Massachusetts State Senate, 3rd Middlesex District. She is bright and decisive and she is my daughter. Mara is as inspired and indefatigable about helping others as she is about herself. She knows how important work and education are to productivity and social order. The Concord resident relates why she’s running for State Senate and how she’ll fight for the local economy.
When Concord’s Mara Dolan learned at a young age of Shirley Chisholm running for U.S. President in 1972, she was excited at the prospect of the nation’s first female Commander in Chief. But, when she heard that Chisholm might not garner enough votes because of her gender and skin color, Dolan immediately believed that something was amiss. “I didn’t think that was right and ever since then I have felt a strong civic responsibility,” she told Patch. After years of practicing law and involving herself in community efforts, Dolan officially threw herself into the race to replace Susan Fargo’s State Senate seat. Dolan joins a growing field including Weston’s Joe Mullin and Chelmsford’s Alex Buck, as well as Waltham’s Tim King, who is mulling a …

Currently a partner and public affairs director of the Maynard-based Wellesley Companies, a real estate company, Mullin said his role in growing the Clock Tower Place in Maynard from an abandoned mill in 1998 to its current 2,500 employees--the world …
