Watertown's Lawn defeats Republican James Dixon by more than 900 votes.
John Lawn handily won the special election last night for the 10th Middlesex District State Rep. seat, defeating Republican James Dixon. Around 9 p.m. last night, Dixon called Lawn to concede, after unofficial results showed that Lawn had won all 10th Middlesex precincts, 1,814 votes to 858 for Dixon. (See videos of both candidates from their election night events by clicking the video on the right) Lawn, who gathered with supporters at Fit Z’s Bar and Grille in Watertown, garnered 374 votes in Newton to 145 for Dixon. Voters in parts of Newton, Waltham and Watertown will head to the polls Tuesday, May 10 to choose their next state representative for the 10th Middlesex District. The two candidates on the ballot for Tuesday are Watertown Town Councilor and Democrat John Lawn and Waltham Republican Jim Dixon. Watertown Town Councilman John Lawn will face Republican James Dixon in general election on May 10.
9:40 p.m., Ciccone HQ: Earlier tonight, Ciccone thanked his supporters and asked them to "get behind our Democrat" and support Lawn for the May 10 special election. Ciccone received 389 votes out of a total 613 votes cast in Newton. A third Waltham resident has decided to jump in the race for the 10th Middlesex District state representative seat. Republican James (Jim) Dixon announced in an e-mailed statement last night his plans to run for the seat vacated by Peter Koutoujian, which covers parts of Waltham, parts of Watertown and Newton Ward 1, precincts 1 and 4 and Ward 3, precinct 4. "The voters told me loud and clear that their number one issue was the economy and jobs," Dixon said in the statement. "The taxes are high enough...it's runaway spending!"
