Reading this article makes me happy that I did not invest 4 hours of my time on the Monday meeting. The mayor sounds full of excuses and I must wonder about the state of government officials in our fair city. I had spoken to the mayor at length and she did get one bus stop cleared for me. But, after doing a bit of research and reading this article, I'm convinced that she did it merely to put a …   more ›

She blamed all the contractors but wants to hire even more. She wont hire anyone because then she wont have work for them for the rest of the year. She should open her eyes when shes doing her drive around. This City is falling apart. Theres plenty of work out there and not enough people to fix it. She should be denied anything and everything she asks for. Give her a taste of her own medicine. Any funding thats asked of her never leaves her desk. Its a good thing it does have to go before the council because she would have already written the check. I wouldnt doubt it that this ex trooper is a distant family member or a very good friend of hers.   more ›

Waltham Mayor Among Highest Salaries in Boston Area

Here's a look at what mayors in and around Boston earn annually, including Waltham Mayor Jeannette McCarthy.

Waltham Mayor Jeannette McCarthy has one of the highest salaries of mayors in the greater Boston area.  McCarthy's annual salary is just below Newton Mayor Setti Warren's in a survey of 13 Boston-area communities.  The following chart does not include every Boston-area mayor, but is compiled from the latest data we've been able to find and ranges all the way from $73,000 to $175,000: * Kennedy currently earns $82,500, but that's due to a dispute over how the mayor's salary is set. The Daily Item of Lynn reports the Lynn City Council last voted on that salary in 1998 and since then the mayor has been considered a department head with a negotiated salary and other perks. Former Mayor "Chip" Clancy earned more than $145,000 his last year in …

Should Waltham Hire A Social Media Manager?

Tell us whether Waltham should hire a social media manager.

With some Waltham residents and councilors calling for more and improved use of social media to disseminate crucial city updates, could it be time for the city to hire a full-time social media manager? While Waltham Police are active on social media and distribute such updates, they currently do not have enough trained officers to manage it around the clock. The city government currently lacks a dedicatedsocial media manager who could manage all of the city's communications on social media. Waltham resident Dave Cutler has suggested, on his Twitter feed, the city hire a new person into a similar position. Cutler is a social media manager for a private firm in Somerville. The idea is already alive in Belmont. Belmont recently hired a social…
