John Kerry Confirmed As Secretary of State

Kerry will replace Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State.

With only three dissenting votes, the U.S. Senate has confirmed John Kerry as the new Secretary of State. Kerry will take over for Hillary Clinton, who is leaving her post after four years. The move means Kerry will have to resign as Massachusetts' senior senator. According to a Tweet from WCVB political reporter Janet Wu, Kerry's resignation has reportedly been sent to Gov. Deval Patrick and is effective as of 4 p.m. Friday. U.S. Congressman Ed Markey, D-MA, has announced he is running for the seat. U.S. Congressman Stephen Lynch, D-MA has hinted that he may run.  As for an interim senator for Kerry's seat, Gov. Deval Patrick plans to announce his pick on Wednesday, Jan. 30, according to the Boston Herald.

This is like a game of dominoes. Who replaces Kerry, then if it's Markey or Lynch, who replaces them? I'd be sorry to lose Markey as a Congressman.   more ›

UPDATE: Obama Nominates Sen. John Kerry for Secretary of State

The Massachusetts senator is the president's pick to replace Hillary Clinton as the country's top diplomat.

UPDATED: John Kerry is President Obama's pick to become the next Secretary of State, and replace Hillary Clinton as the nation's top diplomat. Many expected Kerry, chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, to be the president's pick after U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice took her name out of the running last week. Rice had been under scrutiny by Republicans in Congress for statements she made in the aftermath of the attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya. The scramble to replace Kerry is already on; a poll done for WBUR showed yesterday that Republican Scott Brown would lead if the special election to replace Kerry were held today.

Report: John Kerry to Be Secretary of State Nominee

The Massachusetts Senator would replace outgoing Secretary of State Hilary Clinton.

President Obama plans to nominate U.S. Senator John Kerry for Secretary of State, according to ABC News.  Kerry, if nominaed by Obama and confirmed by the Senate, would replace outgoing Secretary of State Hilary Clinton. Obama has reportedly made his decision but does not plan to announce it within the next few days, partly because of sensitivities surrounding the mass shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. Kerry became the front runner for the top diplomatic post in the wake of U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice withdrawing her name from consideration.  Kerry had reportedly been under consideration for the Secretary of Defense post, but former U.S. Senator Charles Hagel, R-Neb., tops the list of potential nominees for that…

I don't know of a veteran who like this choice. I for one think it's a big mistake, but then he is in politics, and we all know liars make the best politicans.   more ›
