Cause of Waltham House Fire Under Investigation; No Injuries

Fire drew large response from area towns.

Nobody was injured during a 3-alarm blaze last night at 19 Everett St. and officials are invesitgating how it stared, according to the Waltham Fire Department. Nobody was home at the time of blaze, according to Waltham Fire Department Lt. Michael Murphy. Only the upstairs unit of the two-story home was occupied. Area neighbors told Waltham Patch that Roni-Beth Shapiro lives in the upstairs floor, but was in Florida when flames struck. Shapiro owns the home, according to city records. The state Fire Marshal is helping firefighters investigate the cause of the fire, Murphy said. The home sustained heavy smoke and water damage, Murphy said. Waltham FD Responding To 3-Alarm Fire

Fire strikes Waltham home.

Waltham firefighters are responding to a 3-alarm fire at 19 Everett St. While information is still sketchy, firefighters are still working to control the scene. It's not clear whether they have completely doused the fire. Crews, however, have broken many glass windows to ventialate the home, as well as cut holes in the exterior of the roof and left side of the home. There are no preliminary reports of injuries. Several area residents told Waltham Patch the home's owner, Roni-Beth Shaprio, was not home at when flames broke out. She has been in Florida recently, according to the neighbors.
