America will put staunch tea drinkers to shame on National Coffee Day tomorrow, Sept. 29, when coffee fiends can rejoice and celebrate their beloved coffee bean with free brew from several national chains. Many local cafes and businesses are participating in the national celebration. Area Dunkin' Donuts cafes are offering their 1-pound coffee bag for sale at just $5.99 Friday and Saturday. Event runs through this month.
Most people don't think of preventing domestic violence when they get their morning joe. Coffee, according to a local anti-domestic violence group, can help prevent domestic violence. REACH Beyond Domestic Violence has launched its "Share A Cup of Coffee" campaign intended to help people build relationships with others in hopes that it can prevent domestic violence. The event is the latest part of REACH'S Small Actions Campaign, according to REACH Community organizer Allison Berry. “Being able to talk to one and another … can really help to build a safer community,” Berry told Waltham Patch in an interview. One of the true joys of the holiday season is the opportunity to catch up with friends, or make some new ones, at holiday gatherings. Some years it seems every weekend is packed with parties or gatherings of some sort. Years ago, Starbucks proposed a location in North Waltham, but it was never approved, as City Councillor Robert Logan has explained. However, More Than Words, does sell Starbucks coffee, but it is not an official location of the chain. Belmont, Watertown and Newton all have Starbucks locations, but should Waltham? I would not want a Starbucks at a busy intersection. The one in Cushing Square in Belmont creates a lot of traffic problems.Cars there try to cross 2 lanes of traffic in the middle of an intersection to get in and out of the Starbucks parking lot.   more ›
