Former Waltham Councilor Plans Seeking Return to Council

Former councillor says she wants to continue improving Waltham.

Former City Councillor Sally Collura says she is seeking to return to the city council she left in 2011. Collura told Waltham Patch she has taken out nominated papers for an at-large seat and has already held a fundraiser. “I have been overwhelmed with the kind comments of people, and I believe that the people out there … are sincere about that,” she told Waltham Patch.  Collura, who lost her 2011 reelection bid to Councillor Joe Vizard in 2011, said she wants to continue to work to improve Waltham and work on incoming business development.  The deadline to submit nomination papers with signatures is June 27 and the primary election is set for Sept. 17. The general election is scheduled for Nov. 5.

Why would she demean herself with all that will be coming her way?   more ›

Waltham City Council At Odds Over Future Of Former School

Council debates face of former Fitch school.

The City Council is at odds over what to do with the former Fitch School. On Tuesday, the council, in a 9-3 vote, approved having the city’s building inspector assess the condition of the building, but only after Councillor Robert Logan raised strong concerns over what he believed was a rush to dispose of the school. Councillors Sally Collura, Logan and Joseph Giordano all voted ‘no.’ The School Committee, in June, declared the school as surplus property, turning control of it over to the City Council. Logan said that with talk of moving the Waltham Public School’s districts administration offices out of Waltham High School, the city should first create a final plan over the fate of those offices. Logan said that the Fitch School could be …

Even a remote area in Wilmington where I work had EVERY side street down to pavement by Sunday. Crescent St., Main St, prospect St. Moody St. A Quagmire. Disgraceful.   more ›
