After 26.2 grueling miles came, finally, the finish line.
The finish line. Whether getting there at all or getting there in your personal best time was your goal, it is sweet to cross it. For spectators, it's also sweet to see all that hard work, determination and pain pay off for the women and men who crossed it. Here are some of the photos we snapped at the finish line. Families and friends of athletes from around the world descend on Boston for the marathon, and plenty of them brought signs to cheer their runner on.

With temps rising to 85 degrees, runners and spectators did whatever they could to shake off the heat.
Heat was a big challenge for this year's Marathoners and even for spectators. Here are some pics that show how runners and viewers dealt with the heat. If you got your own pic that screams "It's hot!" please add them to the gallery.
Not everyone was dressed for maximum velocity at the Boston Marathon.

I finished in time to receive a medal but since I ended up walking most of the way they apparently had stopped tracking times. It took me around seven hours. Congratulations to all of you who actually RAN the full distance in spite of the heat and to everyone who participated. I hope you enjoyed the experience as much as I did. --Judy Zuckerman   more ›
