Some have said the fast food permit process is too arduous.
With so many fast food and fast casual restaurants planning to come to Waltham, some Waltham Patch readers have objected to allowing the City Council approve permits to operate. Boloco, which had planned to open a location in Waltham, cancelled its plans after months of meetings with the City Council and its committees. In it letter to the city, CEO John Pepper slammed the "incredible bureaucracy" of the process to receive the permit. What do you think? Should the Waltham City Council …

Tell us what should move into 475 Winter St.
With plans for Boloco's burrito shop now cancelled, the former Winecellar location at 475 Winter Street needs a tenant. What do you think should move into the space? The area is readily accessible by car and bus but is not ideal for pedestrians to reach. Also, it can be difficult to find a parking space at the site given the low number of them. TELL US: What should move into the site? Leave your comments in the box below.

The regional burrito chain had planned to open a new location at 475 Winter St., but the company recently axed its plans. The City Council's Rules & Ordinance Committee was poised to recommend that the full City Council approve the company's request for a fast food permit, but with one caveat -- that Duffy Properties, which owns the building, not allow more than four restaurants at the site at any given moment, according to City Councilor Robert Logan, a member of the subcommittee. That, he said, would have meant no additional restaurants could have been added after the burrito eatery. Logan…

The following is from City Councilor Robert Logan. Let me first address the more general issue of new businesses coming into the City of Waltham. Waltham is one of the most pro-business cities in the state. We have a commercial base that is the envy of the Commonwealth, and is headquarters for a number of large corporations. When Dassault Systèmes opened its North American Headquarters on Wyman Street last year it brought over 800 high-tech jobs to Waltham. Waltham has more Class A office space than any other community on Route 128, and more hotel rooms than any other city in Massachusetts outside of Boston and Cambridge. Waltham is attracting plenty of businesses with well paying jobs. In fact, according the U.S. Census there are 6,221 …
