Help a Waltham-based organization prevent domestic violence and build a greater sense of community!
Waltham-based REACH Beyond Domestic Violence kicked off its “Say Hi To You Neighbor” campaign intended to help build a greater sense of community Waltham. As part of the campaign, REACH, which assists domestic violence victims, has planned a series of events for Feb. 9 - 16 designed to build relationships between community residents and ultimately help prevent domestic violence. One of those of events includes a “Meet the Waltham Media” will be held on Feb. 15. REACH is aiming to have residents collectively issue at least 2,013 “Hi” greetings to neighbors. "Say Hi" week moving along!
REACH Beyond Domestic Violence's "Say Hi To Your Neighbor" Week is racking up the "hellos." As of yesterday, REACH had about 374 greetings, with many more not yet counted, according to REACH Comunity Organizer Allison Berry, as she canvassed Moody Street saying hello to pedestrians. They are aiming to get 2012. The "Say Hi" week is part of REACH's Small Actions Campaign intended to create a greater sense of community in Waltham and help prevent domestic violence. Yesterday afternoon, Berry and volunteers Roberta Factor and Jim Preston walked Moody Street passing out small cards that read "hi" in both English and Spanish and talking to people about the campaign. Owner Alex Green opened Back Pages Books in 2005 and since made not only a job, but a lifestyle. Check out our profile of the shop below, in what is the first of a series of profiles of local businesses. Why did it open in Waltham as opposed to another town?: “I had gone to Brandeis, and I really fell in love with Waltham. I was at a barbeque with a friend, and we both were thinking of what we wished was in Waltham when we were at college, and we came up with a bookstore.
