The public is welcome to attend the fire department ceremony.
The Waltham Fire Department will mark this year's September 11 anniversary with a ceremony in honor of the 343 firefighters who died responding to the terrorist attacks. The ceremony will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Fire Department headquarters at 175 Lexington St., according to the fire department's website. The ceremony starts at 8:45 a.m. The ceremony is open to the public.

John Wenckus died in the 9/11 attacks a decade ago.
While he was not a Waltham resident when he died 10 years ago, Waltham residents today remembered Waltham native John Wenckus, 46, of who died in the Sept. 11 attacks. Wenckus was a 46-year-old Torrance, Calif., resident when he died on American Airlines flight 11 which hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. Wenckus’s family, including his mother, Joan, laid a wreath in John’s honor during a ceremony today marking the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks. As she choked up with emotion after the ceremony, Joan Wenckus said her son was likely doing one his favorite activities. “He is up [in Heaven] playing golf with my husband,” she said. Waltham resident Lisa Limonciello knows the meaning of loss all too well. A member of the city's school committee, Limonciello was working at TJX Companies in Framingham on 9/11, and lost seven co-workers in the attacks. Nearing the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks, Limonciello shared memories of her colleagues and how the loss impacted her life and that of her family.
