Waltham High School Graduation Coming Soon

The ceremony will be held at the John F. Kennedy Middle School on Lexington Street.

Waltham High School will hold its graduation on Sunday, June 2 at 2 p.m. The ceremony will be held at the John F. Kennedy Middle School, according to Waltham High School principal Gregory Demeo.

Why doesn't this article have a tag somewhere saying "Updated story". The editor lets a flagrant mistake be published, Justabreezer then lets you know you screwed up. You then correct the errors of your way without letting anybody that already read the story know that you gave them the wrong info. Waltham High Schools Students Strive for Better Health

Students and organizations hold health fair.

Waltham High School students certainly did not have an excuse to eat poorly on Friday, May 3, especially since the school was holding its 3rd annual health fair that day. The fair, which began at 8 a.m., featured Waltham-based organizations' resources for helping students stay in shape and eat healthy. Students played video games that included exercise, performed Zumba and dance moves. Local organizations such as REACH Beyond Domestic Violence (a domestic violence assistanec organization) and others were on hand to showcase resources students have for living healthy lives. Heather Metallides, the director of health and science for grades 6- 12, said she hopes students use the additional resources to make healthy life choices. "It's not …

Waltham School Choice Hearing to be Held Tonight

The hearing is held to decided wheter Waltham parents can send their students to another school district.

A public hearing to decide whether Waltham should participate in the School Choice program will be held at 7:30 p.m. tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Waltham High School. The program allows parents to send their children to schools outside of their community, according to the Massachsuestts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Web site.

I am not a parent, but I am a Waltham taxpayer and voter. I am concerned about the cost of "school choice." Who would pay for the expense of transporting students out of Waltham to their chosen schools? Would the other communities be reimbursed for the burden of additional students from Waltham? I am opposed to school choice. If parents are unhappy with the Waltham schools, they should just move …   more ›

Waltham Educator To Sing at Tonight's Red Sox Game

Denise Gauvin will sing the National Anthem at Fenway Park tonight.

Denise Gauvin, a Waltham special education teaching assistant at the Thomas R. Plympton Elementary School, will sing the National Anthem at tonight's Boston Red Sox game at Fenway Park.  Gauvin, in a previous interview with Waltham Patch, said she is only somewhat nervous about performing for such a large crowd.  Tune into the game at 7:10 p.m. on NESN to see Gauvin. However, there is no gurantee her performance will be broadcasted.

Waltham Educator to Sing National Anthem at Red Sox Game

Denise Gauvin, a veteran Waltham educator, plans to fulfill her lifelong dream soon by singing the National Anthem at Fenway Park.

Denise Gauvin will soon be able to cross one item off of her bucket list -- singing the National Anthem at a Boston Red Sox game. “It happened so fast, I can't quite wrap my mind around it,” Gauvin, a veteran special education teaching assistant at the Thomas R. Plympton Elementary School told Waltham Patch. “I'm walking on a cloud.” Gauvin is scheduled to sing the National Anthem at the start of the Wednesday, April 10 Red Sox game at Fenway Park, Gauvin said. However, there is no guarantee that her performance will be televised, she said. The Sox will play the Baltimore Orioles and the game will be televised on the New England Sports Network (NESN). New Principal Chosen for Waltham Elementary School

The new principal will be the school's third in two calendar years.

A new principal has been chosen to lead Henry Whittemore Elementary School. The Waltham Public Schools district has hired Ross Mulkerin to lead the Whittemore school, according to Superintendent Susan Nicholson. Mulkerin current serves as the assistant director of special services for the Binghamton City School District in New York, Nicholson said. Mulkerin will become the third principal of the Whittemore school in two calendar years. He will replace former principal Sara Lane, who abruptly left her post in January after less than year on the job. Prior to Lane’s departure, former principal Deborah Butts suddenly left her post saying the school needed a “change of leadership.” Mulkerin will start in Waltham sometime over the summer, …

Waltham Citywide PTO Meeting to Be Held Soon

The meetings are typically informations sessions for parents.

A citywide PTO meeting will be held in late April, according to the Waltham city website. The meeting will be held April 25 at 7 p.m. at Waltham High School. Previous PTO meetings have typically been community forums for parents and Waltham Public Schools officials to discuss recent school district issues.

Date Set for Waltham Schools Budget Hearing

The Waltham School Committee is starting the fiscal 2014 budget process.

The public hearing for the fiscal 2014 Waltham Public Schools budget will be held on Wednesday, April 3, according to a notice from the school district. The hearing will be held at 7:30 p.m. at Waltham High School.
