Brownsberger Calls for Congressional Pay Suspension

I am running to succeed Ed Markey in Congress, and if I were currently a Member of Congress I would not accept pay during the current government shutdown. In addition, I would support legislation suspending the pay of Members of Congress during any future shutdown.

A government shutdown is a tremendously negative consequence for our nation, affecting individuals from those who rely on social services to those working in the private sector fueling our economy. Government workers are now particularly hurting, without the pay they need to support their families and live their lives. As government workers themselves, and leaders of our country, Members of Congress should experience the same pain, setting an example and showing solidarity with those most immediately impacted by Congress’s failure to act to stop the shutdown.
