Brewing Brouhaha?

Mayor McCarthy, who chairs the School Committee and who is, as far as I can tell, the Mayor of Waltham, scheduled a meeting with Fitzgerald parents to hear from us directly regarding recent changes at the Fitzgerald, starting with changes to our student population and staff, and ending, most recently, with the departure of our principal and the hiring of an interim principal.  And this has, apparently, led to much hand-wringing and agita and sturm und drang.

But why?

How wonderful is it that someone actually wants to hear from the parents (and taxpayers) directly?  Earlier this year, when plans were being made to move children in the LBRR program from the Whittemore to the already classroom-depleted Fitzgerald, the Fitzgerald PTO Board of Directors sent a letter to the members of the School Committee.  We invited the members to meet with us, to come to the school for a tour, to open a line of communication.  The ONLY member who replied to us was Mr. Tarallo.

The issue here is not that the Mayor wants to check in directly with her constituents; the issue is that more people in the city government do not.

We’ve removed the ability to reply as we work to make improvements. Learn more here
