New Unique Information Technology and Computer Science Program

Newton, MA – September 23, 2013 – Top Banana Education Foundation announces its new Information Technology & Computer Science program for 7th, 8th and 9th graders.

Our information technology class for children of this age is a very new idea, yet it is a necessity for the ever-advancing technical world we live in today. According to Mitch Resnick, LEGO Papert Professor of Learning Research, Director of the Okawa Center, and Director of the Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Lab, “...the benefits of teaching kids to code [is] so they can do more than just ‘read’ new technologies – but also create them.” The future of society will require our citizens to not only possess the scientific knowledge, but the capabilities to use this knowledge with real application. Think artificial intelligence. Think speech recognition. This class is designed to help the young minds get on the road of becoming the digital citizens of tomorrow – to think outside the box.

So what makes it unique? Steve Jobs said, “Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.” Using mathematics as the backbone, Top Banana sets out to revolutionize the way America will raise its future computer and software designers. There is no other program like this out there.

“Our program offers a great combination of studying theory and hands on lab projects! We are absolutely confident that we’re going to make a huge impact on how children are educated about technology today,” says Alex Seriy, Founder of Top Banana. “It used to be that many children who are curious and technologically inclined would have to wait until college for this kind of content. Because this new program builds on middle school math, science and just plain common sense, we introduce the material traditionally taught in college, four to six years earlier, giving the students a competitive edge on many different fronts,” he adds.

The curriculum will follow our brain-based learning philosophy that our students have come to know well from the Top Banana mathematics program. Building on the basic skills and their knowledge in mathematics, students will learn aspects of computer science that young adults are only just starting to learn at their respective colleges. Information technology will be the integral part of a plethora of future jobs, well beyond the field perceived to require it – from marketing to linguistics, from education to medicine, from publishing to the legal profession. No one wants to get left behind in the future of technology; no one wants to feel illiterate in a society that will soon be teeming with technology literate citizens.
