Inviting ALL of Waltham to the Breezers Ball!

The following was actuall written by Mike Bundy on behalf of the Breezers Ball planning group:

In this space last summer, City Council candidate Carlos Vidal published an eloquent blog post entitled “Breezer Pride,” in which he embraced with humor the term natives of Waltham sometimes use for people who have moved into town.  And he asserted that “breezers can make a real difference in our city, working together with lifelong residents to make Waltham a better place.”

In that spirit, a group of us breezers are throwing a party this Saturday, March 1, that we’re calling the Breezers Ball.  The purpose of the party is to thank Waltham for welcoming us, for being such a great place to live and work.  And we want to invite you to it, whether you’re a breezer or you’re born here, whether English is your first language or your third.

The Breezers Ball will take place at the Charles River Museum of Industry in its beautifully restored, tall, red-brick function hall, that’s both totally hip and totally symbolic of Waltham’s past.  The Museum, with its old ingenuity put to a new use, is the perfect place for the meeting of old and new residents of Waltham that will be happening on its dance floor that night.

Yes, of course there’ll be dancing at a Ball!  Dancing to the mix of a local DJ, Bob McColgan, who’s looking forward to playing everything from swing to soul to salsa.  Dress freely enough that you can get funky, but dress festively too, because there’ll be Best Dressed awards given out by Waltham’s fashionista, Sondra Celli.

There’ll also be delicious food and drink.  Waltham is known for its restaurants, and over 20 local establishments are contributing appetizers and main dishes.  You’ll get your first two drinks free with your ticket—if you like beer, Waltham’s own Watch City Brewing is contributing kegs of its home-crafted ale.

Tickets are $50, and the proceeds from the Ball will go to the Waltham High Scholarship Fund.  We breezers want to not only give Waltham a great party, but also contribute practically to a good local cause.  Tickets are available online (go to Breezersball.com) or at several local businesses (Shoppers Café, Café on the Common, Back Pages Books).

By the beginning of March we’ll all be READY for a party after this cold weather.  So come on out that night and join us in shaking off the cobwebs of winter and moving to the beat of spring!  And join us in celebrating Waltham as a place where newcomers and natives can work hard, settle down with their families, and enjoy each other’s company.
