Waltham Schools Parent Info Center May Move

The former South junior high school could become new home of the Parent Information Center.

The Waltham Public School District’s Parent Information Center may be moving to the former South junior high school on Moody Street. 

The Waltham School Committee, during its Wednesday, June 6 meeting, approved having ask the to consider the move. City Council approval is required since the building is under their control. 

The PIC, which is currently housed at the , provides parents with information about the district and connects them with various resources, according to the district’s website.

Waltham Public Schools said that the South school, which is currently being used as a community center, is the most suitable location. She said she was not able to find school property to take the PIC.

Increasing enrollment in the elementary schools compelled the proposal. Nicholson said the move would free up two classrooms at Whittemore. The district is also looking to shift some students from the to the , according to Nicholson.

“We’re looking at this as a temporary one year [solution],” said Nicholson.
