Search for New Waltham Principal Progressing

In the wake of Robert LaRoche departing the James Fitzgerald Elementary School, Waltham Public Schools are looking at an interim principal for the next school year.

The development comes as Superintendent Susan Nicholson updated the community on the search for a new principal.

Six candidates, including several internal candidates, have expressed an interest in the Fitzgerald principal job, according to Nicholson.

"Some of the candidates are currently in administration at the elementary level while others have recently retired as principals at the elementary level," Nicholson said in an email.

Interviews for candidates are scheduled for July 24 - 25. Nicholson said those dates were selected to accommodate summer schedules of those involved in the hiring process. Also, Nicholson said she is working with district staff and parents to identify individuals who would like to be part of the hiring process.

The position has been advertised online and through school listservs.
