New Date for Last Day of Waltham Schools

Find when Waltham Public Schools will end for the year.

As a result of the recent snowstorm and Hurricane Sandy, Waltham Public Schools have delayed the last day of classes.

June 21 is now scheduled to be the last day of classes, according to the district's calendar posted on its website. To date, Waltham Public Schools have closed two days for the hurricane and three days for the recent snow storm.

Why punish the students for Waltham's failure to plow the streets and sidewalks in time for them to return to school after the snowstorm? The weather is going to be hot by the end of June, and the kids and teachers are not going to be motivated to use those added days productively!

Amazing to read prior comment; our school system is failing our students ranking last tier in the state of MA. Not only are those additional days needed, more and better school/ education needs to be provided. Motivation lies in knowledge that you attend to build a better future for yourself and community.

Tina, There is another way to look at this. The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education requires schools to hold 180 days of school each year. Historically, they have been very strict about communities meeting that mandate and exceptions are rarely granted. So, no matter the weather or other unforeseen circumstances students must go for 180 days. I suggest reading this: http://www.doe.mass.edu/news/news.aspx?id=5984
