Brandeis Student Struck With Tuberculosis

About 250 students are being tested for the disease.

A Brandeis University student has fallen ill with tuberculosis, according to the Boston Globe. 

As a result, the university is testing 250 students.

The stricken student was diagnosed on Dec. 3 and is being treated in isolation, according to the Globe. About five students who had further contact with the ill student have already been tested and are awaiting results.

Tuberculosis is a contagious disases that impacts the lungs. Symptoms can include a cough for more than three weeks, weakness, chills, fever and weight loss among other others. If not treated, it can be fatal. 

Individuals contract it by breating infected air droptlets from others who have TB, according to the Globe.
