Alex Cabrera's Condition Improving; Moved to Rehab Center

He’s smiling, talking and walking again.

Alex Cabrera, , has recently made big improvents on his long road of receovery. 

“He’s doing great. He is talking. He has got his personality back. He is joking around,” said Paul Manganelli, the boyfriend of Cabrera's mother.

Cabrera, on Wednesday, June 6, was moved from Tufts Medical Center in Boston to Franciscan Hospital For Children in Brighton where he is rehabilitating, according to Paul Manganelli, Cabrera’s mother’s boyfriend. Previously, Cabrera had been in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Tufts hosital, but was moved to a regular unit there before going to the Franciscan hospital. 

Cabrera, a 15-year-old student at Kennedy Middle School, is undergoing physical, occupation and speech therapy and is regaining his strength, according to Manganelli. He has resumed speaking and even walked the halls of the hospital recently, Manganelli said. Cabrera is eager to resume his favorite hobby, skateboarding, Manganelli said.

Cabrera, however, did suffer a brain injury, but doctors do not yet know the extent of the damage, according to Manganelli. 

As for his medical outlook, Manganelli said, “Our spirits are really high right now. [The doctors'] outlook is just great for him.”

Cabrera has received a which has certainly helped his recovery.
