Ribbon Cutting at McKenna Playground - "The Batter"
This morning we held the ribbon cutting ceremony for the final phase of improvements to McKenna Playground, known by longtime area residents as "The Batter." This final phase cost $260K and included drainage improvements, reconstruction of the parking area, and a new park that was constructed between the right field fence of Cacciatore Field (Babe Ruth baseball field) and the DCR's Charles River "Riverwalk" Park. It reclaimed a piece of City owned property that had become overgrown with weeds and bushes, and turned it into a beautiful park that connects the existing municipal recreational facility with the Riverwalk. It also opens up that stretch of the Riverwalk and in doing so makes it more accessible and much safer. If you haven't seen it yet, I urge you to check it out. Parking is on the Whitcomb Street side of the playground and the new park is at the end of Whitcomb Street.
