Waltham Watch Factory 2nd Annual Picnic (August 24th, 1918)

Ninety-five years ago, Waltham Watch Factory held its second annual company picnic on August 24th, 1918 at Norumbega Park, where over 3,000 employees attended the event. The committee on prizes gave away many valuable items from various Waltham merchants in addition to watches from the Watch Company. Highlights included the Waltham Watch Company Band, potato sack and human wheelbarrow races, a blueberry pie contest, tug-of-war, and other competitions. The picnic became renowned for being the most successful event of its kind held in Waltham and was looked forward to with enthusiasm as an annual occurrence.
