Moody Street Condos/Restaurant Project Approved

The long-awaited 200 Moody St. project has been approved.

The Waltham City Council, during its Aug. 5 meeting, approved a special permit for developers to proceed with its proposed retail and condominium project at 200 Moody St., the site of the former Construction Site store.

Specifically, the permit allows the developer, 200 Moody St. LLC, to make greater use of the floor space in the building. However, the existing easement on the site must be released before work can begin, according to City Councilor Ed Tarallo. Mayor Jeannette McCarthy, who oversees the easement issue, said she is working to release the easement.

The site, when complete, will consist of residential units on the second floor and a restaurant on the first floor, according to City Councilor Ed Tarallo. According to the Boston Globe, the residences will be luxury condominiums.

Councilors hailed the progress of the long-delayed project. City Councilor Robert Logan said, “This is going to be a great catalyst for increased development.”

Councilor Tom Stanley said he regretted the council not voting on this within the last couple of years noting an easement issue that held up progress on the project.

The site plan for the project was first filed in April 2010, according to project documents.
