[VIDEO] Waltham State Rep. Endorses Joe Kearns Goodwin For State Senate

State Rep. Thomas Stanley, D-Waltham, is backing Joe Kearns Goodwin for the 3rd Middlesex State Senate seat.

State Rep. Thomas Stanley, and several other local officials, have endorsed for the 3rd Middlesex State Senate seat.

Stanley and Goodwin made the announcement on Aug. 22 during a press conference outside of the on Main Street in Waltham.

Along with Stanley, his father, former Waltham Mayor William Stanley, State Rep. John Lawn, D-Watertown and Waltham City Councilors Gary Marchese and Thomas Curtin are also backing Goodwin. Waltham City Councilor Daniel Romard is also supporting Goodwin.

"At a time when special interests dominate the conversation on so many issues that impact our lives, Waltham needs a senator who will be an indepdndent voice to stand up for the working families that make up the backbone of our city and serve us,. That person is Joe Kearns Goodwin," Thomas Stanley said in a press release.

Goodwin told reporters during the press conference that he was honored to have the support and would work to get an . He said he would seek to protect it from development and work to keep at least part of it as open space. Goodwin also said he would fight for the Waltham to have the right of first refusal on whether to purchase the site. 

Thomas Stanley and his father also lauded Goodwin's leadership during his U.S. Army service as another reason they are backing him. Goodwin said he would not cower from a confrotration to protect his constituents.

"I'm not afraid of a fight," Goodwin said.
