Waltham/Newton Mayors Square Off in Football Bet

The mayors of Newton and Waltham are betting outings in the cities based on the outcome of the Sept. 8 Newton North High School vs. Waltham High School football game.

The Newton North Tigers and Waltham Hawks football teams are not the only people banking on winning their scheduled Sept. 8 rivalary game.

Newton Mayor Setti Warren and Waltham Mayor Jeanette McCarthy have wagered outings their towns. The wager -- a tour of Prospect Hill Park in Waltham and a lunch or dinner meal at a Waltham restaurant and a meal O'Hara's Food & Spirits in Newton and ice cream at in Newton.

McCarthy and Warren met briefly on Sept. 5 at to officially place their bets. At first, Warren wagered a meal at Rox Diner (as well as Cabot's ice cream), but switched it to an outing at . He finally settled on a meal at O'Hara's, which McCarthy said is owned by a Waltham resident.

Both mayors plan to attend the Saturday game. The game kicks off at 1 p.m at Newton North High School.
