Waltham Mayor Chosen to Lead Mayors Group

Mayor McCarthy was elected during a Jan. 24 and Jan. 25 meeting.

Waltham Mayor Jeannette McCarthy has been elected as the president of the Massachusetts Mayors Association.

McCarthy was chosen during a Jan. 24 and Jan. 25 meeting of the association, according to a press release from the Massachusetts Municipal Association.

The association meets regularly to discuss issues facing mayors across the state. McCarthy will serve on the group's board of directors as well as its Local Government Advisory Commission.

“As any mayor or local official can tell you, our communities are facing common challenges and are united on an agenda for growth,” McCarthy said in a statement from the group. “No city or town can go it alone, which is why we are all working together on critical issues. This year the debate will center on winning powerful investments in local aid, transportation and education to grow our economy, create jobs and build a strong recovery."
